Charyn canyon is one of the unique natural monuments of Kazakhstan. Charyn Canyon is about 12 million years old, it surprises with its vertical rocks, resembling ancient castles created by winds, sun and rain.
The length of the Charyn canyon is 154 km along the Charyn River. The canyon is located 195 km east of Almaty, near the border with China. The canyon enters the territory of the Charyn National Park, established in 2004. Travel time to the canyon is about 3 hours.
